CHEWY (Located in Manhattan, NY)

Please meet Chewy. He is a 1 yr old Lhasa Apso/Shih Tzu Mix. He was rescued from a New York City shelter, where he was found as a stray, in the beginning of May 2010.  Unfortunately, Chewy wasn’t mentally stable enough to be adopted at that time. He was having severe trust issues and wasn’t sure how to react in certain situations. Chewy has come so far in 2 months.

He still has some issues that need to be attended to but I don’t want to deprive this little boy of a loving home because he deserves one SO badly! He has become my very special guy and is full of love if someone can see beyond the playful feet and hand biting (which he is overcoming day by day), the food aggression to other dogs (not humans) (also something he is overcoming rapidly), the timid attitude towards new people and the guarding issues.

I would like to mention that he displays none of the above mannerisms towards ME. He does display them towards other people, especially someone he is meeting for the first time. Once he gets to know you, Chewy is the most amazing and loving little boy you will ever meet! He loves nothing more than to cuddle on the couch with you, lay his head on your shoulder and fall asleep cradled, like a baby, in your arms.

He will ONLY be placed in a home that is experienced handling a dog like Chewy and is familiar with the type of training that must be enforced.  Chewy is the type of dog that cannot be shown affection, AT FIRST. He needs to know his boundaries and his limitations. Then, he can be rewarded with affection.

With all that being said, Chewy is EXTREMELY intelligent and has learned the majority of commands. Such as: Sit: Stay, Drop, Giving Both Paws, Down, Roll Over (Both Ways), Waves Goodbye with his Paws, Come, Fetch and I’m currently teaching him to speak on command. He has picked up each of these commands within a couple of days! He is excellent in the car and loves other dogs. However, I would like for him to go to a home where he will be the only dog in order for someone to focus all of their attention on him. That doesn’t mean he cannot go to the dog park or be around other dogs. Also, the home must have no children!

He is neutered, up to date on all shots and vaccinations, micro chipped, house trained and crate trained.
